Quality assurance

Environmental management actions complied with local governmental guidelines and outsourced tasks were performed by ISO9001 compliant companies only. Entomological surveillance and vector control activities followed Technical Standards set out by the Ecuador Ministry of Health. Personnel from the National Vector Reference Center (CRNV) provided continuous quality supervision, and oversaw all entomological surveillance procedures. Personal biosecurity equipment was provided (i.e., N95 masks and gloves).

More specifically:

  • Vector control and entomological surveillance procedures were carried out by health personnel in accordance with the Ecuador Ministry of Health's "Technical standard for vector surveillance and control in Ecuador".

  • All activities involving chemicals were performed following the biosafety and disposal protocols detailed by the manufacturer.

  • The collection of solid waste and environmental management followed the standard safety procedures of the Manta Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government Council.

  • SEGINUS, an ISO 9001: 2015 certified company, were responsible for used tire removal.

  • Survey participation was voluntary and anonymous; there was no compensation for the participation. The data was digitalized and stored at the CRNV server. The physical documents were destroyed and recycled at the end of this project.
